dinosaur derby 3
The annual Denmead Dinosaur Derby is the Scout Group’s main fund-raising event of the year and is normally held on the second Sunday in September at the HQ. It is based on an old-fashioned country fair theme with lots of sideshows such as coconut shy, fishing for ducks and bouncy castles (OK so we have given way a bit to the modern age). We have a beer tent, tea tent with homemade cakes, BBQ and feature Dinosaur racing (instead of donkeys)! It is for all the family and is designed to be a fun day out and affordable for all. It is very successful and is totally dependent on a large number of volunteers from the Group – Leaders, Executive Committee members, Parents and Children. It also relies heavily on the goodwill of many local businesses. Each year in late August / early September, programmes are distributed to every house in Denmead. Once again the printing is kindly being sponsored by Bishops Printers. This publicises the event and is a good source of advertising to our local businesses.
We would like to thank Basepoint Waterlooville who have come on board as sponsors for 2013 onwards.

2017 will be our 25th Derby!! don’t miss it!

Where to find us

September 2012

Another fantastic Dinosaur Derby was held this year with all the favourite attractions plus a few surprises. We were blessed with fine dry and very warm weather. This ensured a record turnout and once again we had families from all over the area. All events proved popular and this year we recognised the 20th Anniversary of the event, and Olympic year by presenting medals to the winners of each race. Our grateful thanks go to all our sponsors and advertisers for helping to get the event off to a good financial start. We had outstanding support on the run-up to the event with sales of programmes being run again on a distributed rather than central basis. We also had fantastic support on the day from parents, children and stallholders and this ensured another successful Derby. In the end we raised over £6000 for the Group to put us in a strong position for the forthcoming year. Angela Harwood, Group Scout Leader said “I would like to say a big thankyou to all who helped make the Dinosaur Derby a tremendous success again this year. This will go a long way to keeping Scouting alive and well in Denmead in these difficult times. See you next year!”
