Dinosaur Derby…

Yes – Dinosaurs do really race!

The Rain did not stop the Dinosaur Racing!

On Saturday 9th September, a small army of volunteers set about putting up tents and gazebos ready for the fun and racing to commence the next day.
Saturday was the hottest day of the year, and all the volunteers were excited for a great day of sunshine and crowds the following day.
Sunday came, the dinosaurs were fed and watered and eager to race……and then alas, the heavens opened.
We were not disappointed by our supporters; people still came in their hundreds from the village and beyond.
We had 1027 people of all ages through the gate in the first two hours.
The dinosaurs raced and the children enjoyed the swing boats, panning for gold, dinosaur treasure hunt, inflatables, archery and much more.
Of course, the adults were not forgotten with the adult tombola, bottle hoopla, raffle and of course the odd beer.
The tea room provided a welcome break from the rain with a plentiful supply of delicious homemade cakes.
The BBQ was in full flow even in the rain…. only in Britain!

For those brave enough to stay the sun finally made an appearance at 4.15pm and we enjoyed some much needed warm sunshine.

We would like to thank everyone for braving the weather, coming out and enjoying the day’s events.

We especially thank all our race sponsors, local businesses for their raffle donations, Denmead Brass Band and the local farmers for the loan of haybales and a parking field and finally all our volunteers for their time and effort to make this event happen.
We look forward to seeing you all again next year

The Scout Group’s main fund-raising event of the year is normally held on the second Sunday in September, and it is based on an old-fashioned country fair theme with lots of sideshows.

One of the biggest, family fun, community events held in Denmead every year, gates opened at the Scout Hut in Kidmore Lane at 1:30pm to the sounds of the Denmead Bass Band with an over 1,500 people in attendance.

We are yet to confirm how much money we raised for the group, but we will be sure to let you know. The funds will enable us to continue supporting our youth members delivering a programme of activities to gain “skills for life”. We take this opportunity to thank all the local businesses who supported us and the people of Denmead and beyond who never fail to come out and support us.

If you would like to volunteer for next years committee or to be a part of the group please contact our group scout leader Tracy at [email protected]
